
Purdue Extension invites community members to explore home gardening and food preservation through a hands-on workshop, From Planting to Pantry: Intro to Home Gardening & Food Preservation, taking place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 15 at the Miami County 4-H Fairgrounds Community Building, 1029 W. 200 North, Peru.
This educational event is open to adults 18 and older who are interested in beginning or enhancing their home gardens and learning safe, effective food preservation methods. Topics covered will include:
Raised Bed Garden Tour, Seed Saving & Preservation
Growing Tomatoes
Common Garden Pest Management
Herb Gardening
Food Preservation Workshop (featuring a live demo of two salsa recipes)
The workshop will be led by knowledgeable Purdue Extension educators and specialists: Geoff Schortgen, Courtney Schmidt, Jessica Riffle, Karen Mitchell, and Tabby Flinn.
The cost to attend is $50, which includes a boxed lunch. Payment must be made by cash or check payable to Purdue CES Ed Fund. Participants must register by Aug. 11 at bit.ly/PlantingtoPantry or by calling the Extension office.
